When i was ready for love, <br />i was a young lad <br />in a strapping young world <br />full of promise and muse <br />years flew by like minutes <br />the times and people i knew <br />had gone and grown right up <br />out of whatever it is i do <br />standing in a river of concrete <br />rushing out of earth <br />the anti-gravity meteor <br />spearing somewhere in another horizon <br />love had betrayed me. <br /> <br />now at eight past teen <br />with a tattered shirt with torn sleeves <br />and pants with pockets as to hold <br />all of those things that will never <br />matter as much as your hand did in mine, <br />but i see now living up to your word <br />unlike legos and poetry <br />is not something naturally easy <br />for this particular man, if any, <br />and looking back at what i had <br />and all of the times i could have held onto <br />you... <br />i see what i must say <br />makes the difference very clear, <br />love never betrayed a soul <br />it was I that betrayed love, <br />and for that reason i have suffered <br />so as to never make that choice again. <br /> <br />cross my heart and hope to live, <br />i won't say goodnight and goodbye <br />until i know in my heart that you <br />are safer than the sun in our skies, <br />may you never fall nor rise <br />but always be at your same <br />epic balance with life, <br />i'll hold onto you from up there <br />or i'll push you from down below, <br />may you always soar <br />in the place without limits <br />above all the rest.<br /><br />David Thomas<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/acquired-loving-taste/
