He had paid <br />no attention <br /> <br />to the smell <br />of fear in the air <br /> <br />an ounce more <br />of danger <br /> <br />the slight shift of <br />tension <br /> <br />the tiny crab now <br />pinching the air <br /> <br />angrily & with <br />growing desperation <br /> <br />as he rattled around <br />the bright blue hole <br /> <br />that had loomed <br />out of nowhere <br /> <br />swallowed him whole <br />stealing the world. <br /> <br />He appeared to be <br />attached to <br /> <br />the little laughter <br />of the giant hand <br /> <br />holding it tightly <br />as it ran...ran <br /> <br />to its “Mummy...Mummy! ” <br /> <br />“Look...look...I’ve <br />captured a monster! ” <br />“Moi...the monster! ” <br />scowled and scuttled <br /> <br /> <br />the crab now <br />beside itself. <br /> <br />Crab couldn’t <br />believe its good luck <br /> <br />when it heard the “Mummy...Mummy! ” giant <br />tell the “Little girl” giant <br /> <br />“Lovely darling! ” <br /> <br />“Now...shall we <br />put this magnificent monster <br /> <br />back into <br />the sea <br /> <br /> <br />before its Mummy <br />misses it? ” <br /> <br />“Yes...let’s! ” <br /> <br />Suddenly amidst <br />squeals & laughter <br /> <br />he was emptied <br />out onto sand <br /> <br />and ran and ran <br />towards the sweet voice <br /> <br />of the sea <br />whisking him away to <br /> <br />...safety.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/big-blue-hole/
