“Here! ” <br />she says aloud <br /> <br />to her <br />self. <br /> <br />“Here! ” <br />is one step from Heaven. <br /> <br />The lake <br />is a little piece <br /> <br />of shattered <br />glass <br /> <br />courting the sun’s <br />attention. <br /> <br />The word <br />a sprig of thyme. <br /> <br />Roads <br />scattered threads <br /> <br />from an overturned <br />sewing kit. <br /> <br />The horizon <br />resonating between <br /> <br />sea & sky <br />& why <br /> <br />building mountains <br />out of clouds <br /> <br />floating by <br /> <br /> <br />an Avalon <br />out of a sunset. <br /> <br />“Sit! ” she orders <br />an ecstatic Irish setter. <br /> <br />It licks <br />her now bare feet. <br /> <br />Even the far away sea <br />seems to sit for its portrait <br /> <br />not daring to draw <br />breath as the paint <br /> <br />captures <br />it. <br /> <br />She breaks open <br />the Chardonnay <br /> <br />toasts <br />herself <br /> <br />as the last bit of sunset <br /> <br />seeps into <br />her painting.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/here-55/
