You'd thought they learnt by past mistakes <br />How many lives that it must take <br />To learn where youth and laughter go <br />To fight in war for one last show <br /> <br />To give them all democracy <br />And help them live like you and me? <br />But obviously they do not see <br />the broken limbs and body bags <br />and coffins draped in national flags <br /> <br />The ruined lives and distraught wives <br />Who cry as solemn processions pass them by? <br />They where youth not long ago but now they lay where flowers grow <br />And we shall morn for a short while and see their picture with fixed smile <br />And then forget as we all do until it affects me or you!<br /><br />kipper Stagg<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/uruk/
