'Forever yours' was promised many times. <br />Other times, it though she was so precious that <br />It waited in lines, <br />Standing, hoping, praying, for her attention. <br />For her mark was penned on it, by love. <br /> <br />'Things would never work out' <br />this heart has been told. <br />But being stubbornly stupid, <br />On what-ifs it continued to hold. <br /> <br />The voices were correct, <br />Knowing some things it didn't know. <br />They shared only one of their secrets <br />Something like this it goes: <br />'The spirit of love has forsaken thee, <br />Love is not and will never be, <br />the icing on your cake or cup of tea. <br />Because your door is not special: <br />It is dwarfed and inappropriate, <br />Cupid turns around when he sees your gate.' <br /> <br />I have accepted this. <br />My mind is not set for love, <br />My crystal ball is black. <br />My heart shall always lack. <br />No love shall come in sight. <br />My heart shall always be in night. <br />My hourglass is out of sand. <br />No one will accept my hand. <br />I wait no more, but I'm not sure. <br />For my heart and mind are at war. <br />The other neither can conquer. <br /> <br />My heart says it only want to love. <br />My mind says this it cannot approve <br />And wonders why my heart continues. <br />Mind has seen heart torn in many ways, <br />It has heard heart sing so many blues. <br />It wonders why heart foolishly continues. <br />It wonders why heart keeps wanting to love... <br /> <br />Leslie Alexis<br /><br />Leslie Alexis<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-foolish-heart/
