As we walk along in mindless prattle. <br />Leaves rustle and seed-pods rattle. <br /> <br />Castanets shake in winter’s breeze. <br />Tree tops tilt and sway with ease. <br /> <br />Distant birds announce early return. <br />To meadow nests hidden in dry fern. <br /> <br />Eyes catch movement to reveal to me. <br />Partridge and babies beneath a tree. <br /> <br />Squirrels scatter over the ground. <br />A doe and fawn leaps then bound. <br /> <br />Off to a thicket of tall green pines. <br />Refuge found that leaves no signs. <br /> <br />Neath icy winds and snow drifts deep. <br />Dwellers in hollows still take to sleep. <br /> <br />I stop for a moment to ponder a print. <br />What could this be that left me a hint. <br /> <br />There on the ground in a pile of snow. <br />I found a footprint of a bear paw below. <br /> <br />It was so big and as fresh as can be. <br />I looked around and quickly did flee. <br /> <br />All in the wood is not cute and sweet. <br />Beware dangers that lurk at your feet. <br /> <br />Critters in winter all do not slumber. <br />Bears decide to hunt and plunder.<br /><br />Resty Rivera( PHILIPPINES)<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/dangers-lurk/
