i was once a top the moon <br />watching over everything <br />as i started to climb <br />i fell, falling through space and time <br />into the deepest dark <br />at the bottom of this starry night, <br />i had seen the world grow <br />i had seen the people love <br />and war, and lose, and gain, <br />the earth was so full of vigor <br />once upon a time, <br />as i fell to the darkness <br />i lost sight of the world, <br />i climbed atop my old footsteps <br />and remounted the moon once more <br />as i gazed unto the earth i loved, <br />i watched a new people grow over the land <br />as the older ones (those i knew) <br />became sparse and then none, <br />i grew sad to lose such good friends <br /> <br />but then something awoke <br />deep, deep inside of me <br />and i opened my eyes for a new time, <br />watching as my old friends now gone <br />as their children grew up strong, <br />and i smiled brightly, <br />just before i fell off the moon once more.<br /><br />David Thomas<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/an-old-kind-of-love/
