Agnes’s Mother, Drana was one, <br />Who was the first ever to run <br />And do any public service <br />At the hour of their needs. <br /> <br />A widow with six children, <br />And a drunkard woman, <br />Who were left uncared for, <br />Lived under Drana’s care, <br /> <br />When the widow died, <br />The children were raised, <br />As part of her own family, <br />And they found it homely. <br /> <br />Agnes joined her mother, <br />While serving any neighbour. <br />So, it was no wonder, <br />If she was like her mother. <br /> <br />She too liked very much <br />Her services in the Church. <br />And was fond of praying, <br />Reading and also singing. <br /> <br />In the overseas missions, <br />She showed keen interests, <br />As a public school student, <br />That came as a good start. <br /> <br />She was just twelve then <br />When she took a decision <br />To dedicate her life forever <br />In serving God and the poor. <br /> <br />For this, everyday she prayed. <br />Also every door she knocked. <br />With her mother and priest, <br />She always talked o’er it. <br /> <br />She had decided to join <br />The Loreto Order as a nun <br />In the field of education, <br />In the Bengal Catholic Mission. <br /> <br />She was just eighteen by then, <br />When she took up this profession. <br />And it was during this period <br />The “Sisters of Mercy, ” she founded. <br /> <br />This order spread far and wide <br />With 561 centres in the world <br />Run by 3800 dedicated sisters, <br />Really wonder of wonders! <br /> <br />After her final renunciation <br />And joining the holy mission, <br />She visited her home town never, <br />Not even her sisters or mother. <br /> <br />It was by the Lord’s will, <br />With a missionary zeal, <br />She took up her noble career <br />With all her full vigour.<br /><br />Rajaram Ramachandran<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/mother-teresa-02-a-passion-for-public-service/
