I've always known she was taken <br />but something about her made me keep trying, <br />I used to flatter her with sweet pleasantries <br />knowing she would read between the lines, <br />I used to start a conversation with her <br />just to see her smile <br />a lot of times I made no sense at all <br />but she knew my intentions all the while, <br />I'm sure she knew exactly how I felt <br />as I reflect back on it now <br />but a beautiful smile of acknowledgment <br />was all she ever allowed, <br />I'm not sure which I adored most <br />her beauty or her style <br />or how would I react <br />if I knew the thinking behind her smile!<br /><br />Bernard Snyder<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/behind-the-smile-6/
