I walked slowly to the mailbox,
Hoping for a letter from you.
The box only echoed emptily,
Except for a letter marked 'postage due.'

I waited in our empty house,
Hoping the phone would ring...
And it did...
It was a salesman,
Trying to sell me...something...

I dorve around in my car,
Went to all the places we used to go.
I hung out there til midnight,
But you were a 'no show! '

So, I drove by HER house,
My soul dying a thousand times,
Because you were there,
And I drove home, alone.

Scarlett Treat

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/alone-774/
