I welcome progress with a tear in my heart, <br />The world is evolving and I play my part, <br />Change is inevitable, and technology the key, <br />But all the while conscious what the price may be. <br /> <br />The urban jungle, the electronic nest, <br />Mechanical ants bow to man’s behest <br />The chaos is spreading, like a wildflower seed, <br />Reaping the profits and fuelling the greed. <br /> <br />But fear of the chaos is tempered with ease, <br />By the brilliant minds, who placate and appease, <br />Creation expands with the knowledge they seek, <br />To distract and amuse, and to rebuild the weak. <br /> <br />Hypocrisy reigns, among those who dissent, <br />Their aim and their sentiment may be well meant, <br />But when sickness takes hold or weakness invades, <br />The objections are hollow when technology saves. <br /> <br />Who can be pure, with hands drenched in blood? <br />Who then can flourish, while they stifle the bud? <br />Who can oppose, when all are entwined? <br />But who then will mourn for the world left behind?<br /><br />Daniel P Martin<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/inevitable-progress/
