How thee say
The mason’s house burned in peace?
O’er the burning walls,
His daughter shrieks.

Mason wailed in the field,
That boy around the corner screeched.
Maybe he thought nothing,
When the fence he breached.

Fire blazed around his body,
A corner boy, once he was,
Now not a word coward exists,
When on him the flame was.

Those beautiful curtains so adored,
Are burning down in vain.
Mason’s daughter trapped inside,
Her father crying outside in pain.

“Where are you my lady? ”
The boy called out.
Hid by the smoke she was,
Not scared from fire he was.

When she saw her savior, she wailed harder,
“Ye came to save my life”- cried the daughter
“I commit to be your servant forever!
Just save me from this slaughter! ”

“I am here my lady, to save ye,
And no servant I need for life.
I just pray for you to be free,
And forever be my wife! ”

Her eyes reflected emotions a ton,
“I agree to you”-said she happily.
“But please haste my dear one
Before the fire burns down the whole valley! ”

Out came the daughter with the pard,
Rushed happiness on her mewling father.
Everyone ready for a song of the bard,
As mood of joy spread further.

In the church, the ringing bells,
Rang even harder.
With everyone’s blessing spells,
The two lived even longer!

Aditi Khandelwal

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-burning-house/
