Two swords stabbed Her heart,
Another cut the arms,
Another fell on the stomach.
Bleeding, the woman stumbled.
Onlookers grumbled,
Lovers did their part -and wept...
and wept... and wept.

The blood flooded the land:
Blue and red covered the hand
For a moment the blade had command-
they seemed victorious in her fall,
But she heard the eagles' call,
and with blood from heart to toe
and suffering more than one should know
She rose and journeyed on,
and as days went on she became strong.

Today scars mark the places,
And tears wash the faces
of those who think her dear.
Though memory makes them sad
Her resilience makes them glad:
they know She will go on!

Leslie Alexis

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/911-september-11th/
