I fight upstream just to stay afloat <br />Agony and exhaustion come with each stroke. <br />Many times I find myself questioning <br />And the temptation to give up clearly beckoning. <br />The current continues in the opposite way <br />Teasing and mocking at why I would stay. <br />The waves increase and so does the wind <br />Trying to push me back to begin again. <br />My frustration and annoyance build inside, <br />Little progress has been made should I give up the fight? <br />How easy it could be to let go and fall <br />No more work for me, gravity will take care of it all. <br />Then I will seem weak and not brave <br />I worked too hard for this to all go to waste. <br />Remembering my goals for myself <br />And learning to play the hand I am dealt <br />Will be the reasons I continue to battle <br />And the blessing of it all will slowly unravel. <br />Nothing but greatness will come from this journey <br />Fighting temptations will prove I am worthy. <br />Worthy of everything this struggle holds <br />Worthy of the wisdom that inside I behold <br />So this current may want to take over me <br />But I will fight back courageously.<br /><br />Kaitlin Schmidt<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/fighting-upstream/
