You’re many minds –
Which one shall tease today?

Cloaked in summer haze,
Someplace we breach a flow of river shadows –
Blue-brown, green-blue, the surface –
Colour rarely matters
Under cool of shade,
Where life relaxes life.

Stirs of breeze
Releasing cogitation,
I take a chance,
Catch a phrase from out of gaze
To guess a personality,
Patch it on your pretty face –
Freckles pricking tans across the pleasing skin

(Hairfalls – shimmering blondes –
Add wholesomeness to cheek,
Sleekness to the neck,
Enticement) .

Eye caught eye
Circling; we’re brown to hazel
Flanked by instrumentalists
Orchestrating summer play –
So many species, crafting,
Lending calm
Through gentle airs of country sound.

Adrift, though consciousness retained
As islands–
Mindless of the day,
Yet random times refocusing -
We toy again:

What are those thoughts –?
A frantic trade of doubt –?
Do I lesson in the background,
Blurring into grassy realms?

Copyright © Mark R Slaughter 2012

Mark R Slaughter

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/adrift-upon-a-ramble/
