Whatever happened to gratitude? <br />Is it dead, or just taking a break? <br />Could somebody tell me why 'Thank you' <br />Is so hard a gesture to make? <br /> <br />When someone does you a favour, <br />Without thought of personal gain, <br />Are those two simple words too demanding? <br />Does it bring about physical pain? <br /> <br />I was taught to treat others with courtesy, <br />To be civil, respectful, and warm. <br />A casual 'Cheers, mate' was frowned on. <br />That would have been judged as bad form. <br /> <br />'Cheers' is what you say at a toast! <br />As a platitude it sounds insincere! <br />If you're grateful for kindnesses given, <br />Say 'Thanks' and you're debt will be clear! ! ! !<br /><br />Dawn Ferrett<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/whatever-happened-to-gratitude/
