Among his pupils were the composers Aivars Kalējs, Romualds Kalsons, Imants Zemzaris, Romualds Grīnblats, Mārtiņš Brauns and Imants Kalniņš. As a composer, he wrote orchestral and vocal music, as well as three operas (one for children) and two ballets.
