Hiking signs and trees guided Reese Whiterspoon and Laura Dern down the brown carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of "Wild."<br /> <br />In the film Witherspoon plays a young woman on a long and lonely journey along the Pacific Crest Trail, following her mother's death, a heroin addiction and a failed marriage.<br /> <br />The story is based on the best selling book of the same name.<br /> <br />After reading it, Witherspoon says she immediately optioned it and set out to produce it via her film company Pacific Standard.<br /> <br />SOUNDBITE: Reese Whiterspoon, actress, saying (English):<br /> <br />"I just decided I was going to get busy reading books and trying to change the conversation, you know. And really bring some strong, dynamic women to the screen, female leads, not just a third or fourth lead. I want my daughter to have women to look up to in movies and whether you like these women or you don't like them, they're a part of a bigger conversation about what does it mean to be a woman in this world."
