A round of applause as Nicolas Sarkozy prepares for his political comeback.<br/> <br />Earlier this month the former French President signaled that he is ready to return to the political ring in his bid to lead the right wing UMP party.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH FORMER PRESIDENT AND CANDIDATE TO THE PRESIDENCY OF THE FRENCH RIGHT-WING UMP PARTY, NICOLAS SARKOZY, SAYING:<br/> <br />"The clearer the mandate you give me the quicker we will get our family back on its feet."<br/> <br />Polls show Sarkozy is the favorite to win the party's chairmanship race November 29th.<br/> <br />While the UMP party has been weighed down by a funding scandal, its new leader will hope to benefit from the current unpopularity of the incumbent Socialist president Francois Hollande.<br/> <br />Half-way into his five-year term, Hollande's popularity hit a new low this month with a 12 percent approval rating.<br/> <br />A shrewd politician, Sarkozy may well have him in his sights.
