Darren Wilson has resigned from the Ferguson police department.<br /><br />The officer who shot dead unarmed black teen Michael Brown, told reporters in St Louis that resigning was the hardest thing he’d ever had to do.<br /><br />He said he hoped his decision would allow the community to heal.<br /><br />In Ferguson protests against the grand jury’s decision not to indict Wilson continued into the weekend.<br /><br />Although Wilson was not charged, the US justice department is still conducting a civil rights investigation into the shooting as well as an inquiry into the Ferguson police department’s practices.
