Boko Haram suspected of new attacks on Nigerian cities

There are reports of a dual bomb attack on a crowded market in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri.<br /><br />Local media are quoted as saying two explosions struck the marketplace causing a high number of casualties.<br /><br />Last week 35 people were killed in bomb blasts at the same location.<br /><br />The city is at the centre of an insurgency by Boko Haram Islamist militants.<br /><br />Earlier suspected Islamist militants launched a dawn raid on Damaturu, the capital of Nigeria’s Yobe state.<br /><br />They attacked a police station and tried to shoot down an air force jet.<br /><br />Survivors of Friday’s bomb and gun attack on a mosque in Kano, the country’s second largest city, are recovering in hospital.<br /><br />At least 100 people were killed.<br /><br />Islamists from Boko Haram are suspected. <br /><br />President Goodluck Jonathan, who has vowed to “leave no stone unturned” in hunting down the perpetrators, has asked the National Assembly to extend a state of emergency which expired on November 20.
