The German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel have condemned an apparent Neo-Nazi attack on accommodation for refugees.

Three buildings in the town of Vorra in Bavaria had been refurbished to home refugees and asylum seekers. No-one had yet moved in. Overnight on Thursday, they were set fire to and daubed with swastikas and xenophobic graffiti.

“It is unbearable, when refugees homes are attacked, when people try to make radical speeches. All those who come to us have the right to be treated correctly, to have a proper asylum procedure. That’s our rule of law and we are proud of it,” Merkel said.

The chancellor also spoke out against weekly anti-Muslim demonstrations in Dresden.

The latest march, held on a Monday evening drew around 10,000 people who say they are against the “Islamisation of the West.”

The chancellor said there should be “no place in Germany“ for hatred of Muslims or any other minority.
