Located 15 km from Kavala in Krinides it is one of the most important historical sites in the area. <br /> <br />It was founded by the father of Alexander the Great, Philip II, and thus took his name. <br /> <br />It includes the archaeological site of Philippi, the ancient theater of Philippi where every summer the homonymous Festival is performed, the Roman city and Early Christian churches. <br /> <br />Visiting hours: daily 8:00 to 20:00 during the summer months while during winter it closes with the sunset.
