Israeli soldiers have shot and killed a Palestinian man during clashes in the West Bank, according to the military.<br /><br /> It said soldiers had been trying to make an arrest at the Qalandiya refugee camp north of Jerusalem when Palestinians threw explosives at them and fired shots.<br /><br /> The dead man has been identified by Palestinian officials as 22-year-old Mahmoud Edwan. <br /><br /> They said the army operation had provoked the clashes.<br /><br /> The Israeli army said it had fired back when attacked by <br />what it called “terrorists”, hitting one of them.<br /><br /> Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have been high in recent months, mostly over a disputed holy site in Jerusalem.<br /><br /> The West Bank has been calmer. <br /><br /> It’s thought Israeli security officials reportedly believe the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been trying to keep the lid on violence while pushing for a UN resolution on Israeli occupation.
