Bratton honors slain policeman Wenjian Liu

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton praised slain officer Wenjian Liu's commitment to public service at his funeral on Sunday (January 4).<br/> <br />32-year-old Liu was shot dead last month in an ambush attack along with his partner 40-year-old Rafael Ramos.<br/> <br />"I knew I wanted to be a cop since my early childhood. Detective Liu and Ramos both heard the call much later in life, but the pull was just as strong," Bratton said.<br/> <br />"For awhile [Liu] was on the path to becoming an accountant, but 9/11 changed those plans...some people witnessed that horrible day and were paralyzed. Detective Liu witnessed it and saw the possibility of service," he added.<br/> <br />Liu is believed to be the New York Police Department's first Chinese-American officer killed in the line of duty.<br/> <br />His funeral was attended by tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from across the country.
