European car sales move up a gear after six years in the slow lane

After six years of declining sales European car purchases are moving up a gear.<br /><br /> Sales have seen a 5.7 percent increase in 2014.<br /><br /> Spain saw a rise of 18 percent and in the UK new car sales hit 9.3 percent.<br /><br /> It appears that many new car buyers are turning to less expensive brands such as Skoda and Dacia.<br /><br /> Government incentive schemes and tax breaks have helped the upward trend, but the industry is cautious as much of the assistance is due to end. <br /><br /> The Spanish government, for example, has repeatedly extended a plan which offers price cuts for low emission transport <br /><br /> The industry as a whole doubts that new car sales will reach pre-financial crisis numbers by the end of the current decade.
