Israel struck at Syrian army artillery positions on Wednesday near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The military said it was in retaliation for at least two rockets fired at its forces from Syria the previous day.<br /><br /> The Israeli strikes came before an attack on Israeli forces by Hezbollah which killed two soldiers and injured seven.<br /><br /> The escalation of violence on Israel’s northern border comes ten days after an Israeli strike in Syria.<br /><br /> The attack on territory controlled by Syrian government forces killed a senior Iranian military figure and several Lebanese Hezbollah fighters.<br /><br /> Last week supporters of the militant group turned out in southern Lebanon as some of the funerals were held. <br /><br /> Among those who died was Jihad Mughniyeh, whose father, a late Hezbollah commander, died in a bombing in Damascus in 2008.<br /><br /> It’s not clear what role the son played but his death was a symbolic blow to the Shi’ite militant group.<br /><br /> Last week also saw the funeral held in Tehran for the Revolutiona
