Perhaps the biggest question still being asked about Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy S6 is just how big will it be? Now it is clear to have the answers.

French leak specialist Nowhereelse.fr has uncovered detailed schematics it claims are for an official Galaxy S6 case and from it the site has calculated the S6′s somewhat surprising dimensions showing it to be taller but narrower and thinner than the Galaxy S5.

Galaxy S6 – 143.52 x 70.7 x 7.19 mm (5.65 x 2.78 x 0.28-inches)
Galaxy S5 – 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm (5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32-inches)
The case also suggests the rough shape of the S5 with its more angular design will carry over to the S6, even though it is widely expected to have a significant upgrade in build materials – most likely to an aluminum unibody chassis like the iPhone 6 and HTC One range. There is also talk of a second ‘Edge’ edition with a display on the side, but clearly it wouldn’t be that version’s dimensions here as the case has traditional sides.

In addition the leaked case schematics show an enlarged space for the camera which would tie in with the anticipated jump from a 13 megapixel to 20 megapixel sensor.

The question is why are the dimensions surprising? Because they don’t solve perhaps the most contentious aspect of the Galaxy S6: its screen size.

Much industry focus has been on Samsung supposedly enlarging the screen size of the Galaxy S6 to 5.5-inches. Personally I think that would be a massive mistake as it risks cannibalizing sales of the Galaxy Note 4 and leaving Samsung’s premium phone range entirely made up of phablets. As if the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 needed even less competition?

So on the one hand the minimal size change may suggest that the Galaxy S6 wisely sticks to a circa 5.1-inch display as seen in the Galaxy S5. But on the other hand these dimensions, particularly the slightly taller height, also suggest something much more ambitious.
