Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Super Play Action Football for the Super NES developed by TOSE and published by Nintendo. A follow-up to 1990’s NES Play Action Football, this Super NES exclusive provided Nintendo fans a unique alternative to Tecmo’s popular football games. Unlike Tecmo Super Bowl, Super Play Action Football plays from a top-down perspective. But unlike the Madden games, that perspective is slanted, resulting in a diagonal gameplay experience. The game is also a much slower experience than Tecmo Super Bowl, as every yard is a battle. Super Play Action Football features real NFL teams and logos, as well as a college mode. There’s even a high school mode in which players can input their own team names! Go, CGR High, go! Super Play Action Football offers single-player and local multiplayer play.
