L’innaffiatore innaffiato provocava nel pubblico una reazione emotiva ben diversa da quella suscitata dagli altri film. Quella che abbiamo scelto come copertina per questa pagina è uno dei primissimi poster pubblicitari del cinematografo. I Lumière vi mettono in evidenza proprio questo film. Esso fu ben presto oggetto di numerosi rifacimenti da parte di altri registi francesi come Georges Méliès o Alice Guy, ma non solo.
