Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) voted to sanction the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) with a US$3 million fine for engaging in election campaigning before the official date to do so. The PVEM's illegal campaigning sparked a crisis in the INE, where 7 of the 10 representatives of national political parties withdrew from the General Electoral Council to protest the refusal to move against the PVEM, a party alligned with the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party. teleSUR
