Isaiah Rider is a young man from Missouri with a rare disease called neurofibromatosis, which causes tumors to grow on his nerve endings, leaving him in incredible pain. Last year, his mother Michelle took him to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago for help. When they failed to rectify his condition, she sought to transfer him to a different hospital. Lurie responded by reporting her to Illinois DCFS, which promptly took custody of Isaiah and refused to let Michelle and Isaiah see each other. Since then, Isaiah has been a ward of the state of Illinois, a state he is not a resident of and has no ties to. Isaiah is 17 years old, yet has been denied the right to testify in the Cook County family court on his own behalf or even to hire his own attorneys. In his home state of Missouri, he is already considered an adult. However, in Illinois, he may be kept in state custody until he turns 21. Imagine if you were 17 years old, ill and in constant pain, being kept the ward of a state that you don't know and you could be kept this way for the next four years. Isaiah has already been through unspeakable horrors at the hands of Illinois DCFS. This cannot be allowed to continue.
