Delegations from Cuba and the United States met in Washington D.C. on Wednesday to discuss a variety of topics including the human rights situation in both countries. Pedro Luis Pedroso, the Head of the Cuban Delegation, expressed concern over persistent patterns of discrimination, racism and exacerbation of police brutality in the U.S. Some analysts believe that Washington persists in the normalization talks because President Barack Obama doesn't want to go the Summit of the Americas on April 10 with his prestige at a low level in the hemisphere. Yet other factors could have a negative affect on the talks further on, such as a president of the Republican Party in the White House or a change of leadership in Cuba that does not have the will to press forward with normalization.
