Rand Paul has put his name forward as a Republican presidential nominee.<br /><br /> The Kentucky Senator has confirmed he wants to join the race to become the party’s candidate in 2016.<br /><br /> He is now the second Republican to officially join the campaign, following Texas Senator Ted Cruz. <br /><br /> Paul said: “Too often when Republicans have won, we have squandered our victory by becoming part of the Washington machine. That’s not who I am.”<br /><br /> The 52-year-old is a former eye surgeon and described as a libertarian.<br /><br /> He has often criticised his own party for supporting high federal spending and increased regulation.
