The leader of France’s far-right National Front, Marine Le Pen says she will oppose her father standing in upcoming regional elections, as a rift in the party and her family deepens. <br /><br /> It comes after she clashed with Jean Marie Le Pen over his defence of past comments describing Nazi gas chambers as a “detail of history.”<br /><br /> He has since accused his daughter of betrayal, in remarks made in a far-right newspaper. <br /><br /> In a statement, Marine Le Pen says her father’s stance appears to be somewhere “between a scorched earth strategy and political suicide.”<br /><br /> She is looking to widen the National Front’s appeal, ahead of an expected bid for the French presidency in two years time. <br /><br /> Since taking over from her father, the founder of the National Front, Marine has tried to rid the party of its anti-Semitic image and make it more attractive to mainstream French voters. <br />.
