An Islamic State manifesto on women published on a jihadi forum by the women-only al-Khanssaa Brigade states that women should stay behind closed doors and leave the house only in exceptional circumstances.<br /><br />The document — which is entitled Women in the Islamic State: Manifesto and Case Study and was translated into English by the counter-extremist Quilliam Foundation, a London-based think tank — states that education for women should begin at the age of 7 and stop at 15. The manifesto states that a girl is old enough to be married at the age of 9.<br /><br />The curriculum should mainly cover Islamic religious studies, Koranic Arabic, knitting, basic cooking and other household skills. Women can in some cases work outside the home as doctors, teachers — or even as jihadis if there are not enough male fighters.
