Tributes and condolence messages from intellectuals, cultural and political figures, and heads of government from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean have been pouring in non-stop since the death yesterday of famed Uruguayan author, journalist, and novelist Eduardo Galeano at age 74. His classic work "Open Veins of Latin America" detailing colonial, neo-colonial and imperialist exploitation of the region, first published in 1971, was again cast into the limelight when then Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez presented the book to Barack Obama at the 2009 Summit of the Americas.
