Equipment and arms from the United States and China have found their way into the hands of Islamic State fighters, according to a project funded by the European Union that conducted a field survey of the sources of weapons used by the jihadist group.<br /><br />According to analysts and rival groups, the Islamic State has seized and purchased weapons from other anti-government groups as well as corrupt elements of the security forces in Syria and Iraq.<br /><br />Islamic State militants seized and weapons and munitions when they overran a Syrian air force base near Hama last year.
