Four People Seriously Injured After Truck and School Bus Collide in Queens

Four people were hospitalized Friday when a school bus filled with children plowed into a truck that went careening into a Queens fruit market, officials said. <br /> <br />The Penske box truck was driving southbound on the Clearview Expressway when the yellow school bus crashed into it on Hillside Ave. near Hollis Court Blvd. in Jamaica Estates about 11:40 a.m., officials said. <br /> <br />The out-of-control truck jumped the curb and struck a 34-year-old woman and three other pedestrians before slamming into a sidewalk produce stand outside a grocery store. <br /> <br />The stores’s awning came crashing down and fruits and vegetables flew everywhere, witnesses said. <br /> <br />Four people were taken to Jamaica Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries, officials said. The first woman struck suffered a critical injury, but doctors at Jamaica Hospital managed to stabilize her, cops said. <br /> <br />The 22 children on the bus were being evaluated but not believed to be seriously hurt. <br /> <br />Cops were investigating the crash. No arrests or summonses had been made by Friday evening.
