Images emerging from Kathmandu show the scale of the earthquake disaster.<br /><br /> The quake has destroyed many residential buildings and landmarks, including ancient temples.<br /><br /> This is one of the world’s most densely populated urban centres, and many residential buildings were not earthquake resistant.<br /><br /> It is reported that only a week ago some 50 world scientists gathered in Kathmandu to study the risks if an earthquake struck.<br /><br /> One of the scientists told Britain’s Independent newspaper that the city was a nightmare waiting to happen.<br /><br /> Experts say there was concern about bad construction and a lack of preparation in the event of a big quake.
