An estimated 2,000 people fell victim to a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Nepal on Saturday. Nepal has declared a “state of emergency” after a massive earthquake hit just 80 km northwest of it’s capital city Kathmandu.<br /><br />The earthquake, with it’s epicenter at Lamjung, Nepal, hit early Saturday afternoon and was followed by at least fifeteen aftershocks. The 7.8 magnitude quake was the result of a thrust fault between the India plate and the overriding Eurasia plate. <br /><br />The latest reports estimate the death toll to be more than 2,000. At least 4,700 have been reported injured. <br /><br />An estimated 1,000 people were on Mt. Everest for the early hiking season he when the quake triggered an avalanche. An Indian army mountaineering team has recovered 18 bodies so far. <br /><br />Among those killed in the avalanche on Everest was Google executive Dan Fredinburg.
