Peope in the Ukrainian port of Odessa remember victims who died during clashes a year ago

Separate ceremonies were held in the southern Ukrainian port of Odessa on Saturday for over 50 victims of clashes between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian nationalists on May 2 last year. <br /><br />The confrontations led to a fire in a trade union building that killed 42 people, mainly pro-Russian. Another six were killed in clashes in the streets around the building. <br /><br />No one has since been held to account by the Ukrainian authorities for the events that led to the fire.<br /><br />“Unfortunately most of the active organisers of these events have avoided punishment,” said Tatiana Gerasimova of the May 2 Group. “They are located either in the Crimea, or in Donetsk or Moscow and shamelessly trying to teach us how we must live, talking about the benefits of a federal Ukraine.”<br /><br />A separate ceremony was held to remember Ukrainians killed while demonstrating for national unity. <br /><br />Because tensions still run high in Odessa there was a heavy police presence in the city on Saturday.
