Homophones are not gay headphones.<br /><br />They’re words that sound the same, but have different spellings and meanings. <br /><br />Yet this very explanation got Utah English language teacher Tim Torkildson fired for posting it on his personal blog.<br /><br />I suspect it’s simply because his boss, like a lot of people, can’t remember grade school English. The prefix “homo” means “man” in Latin and “same” in Greek.
