Formation of the disease is most often associated with increased production of sebum and the development of the fungus Malassezia furfur that can be found growing on the skin of most adults. It is most common on the face, scalp, cleavage, chest, the back, between the shoulder blades, and sometimes around the navel and groin. Stress and cold make the disease more pronounced. It can also appear in newborns and usually disappears for three months. <br /> <br />Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic diseases and therefore treatment must be repeated, says Neil Niren MD. <br />Patients with Seborrheic dermatitis are recommended dosed sun exposure because the sun relieves inflammation.
