Never mind the youth of 30 years ago are now, parents spouting the same hairbrained theories to their own kids.

But now, researchers from Oxford and the University of Rochester have combined forces to conduct a study on other possible causes of video game-related violence. In an attempt to evoke an aggressive response from their test subjects, the researchers modified the game Half-Life 2 to make the controls counter intuitive, then only taught have the subjects how to play with the new controls. Half of each group played a modified version of the game with no blood, no gore, and no weapons or violence of any kind, while the other half played the normal blood splattered version.

What the researchers discovered is that the presence of blood and violence in the game did not cause players to become more aggressive in real life. However, among the group who were not taught how to use the new controls, a high percentage became violent whether they were playing the violent version or the sanitized version. The rather intuitive conclusion they reached is that gamers like to win, and get FREAKING ANGRY when the controller doesn't allow them to do well. No big surprise there.

As for anyone who still thinks violent games cause real world violence, please explain how GTA5 can sell 32 million copies and the world hasn't ended yet? Exactly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
