Benghazi bloodbath: Multiple car bombs in Libya city kill at least 9

Originally published March 18, 2014<br /><br />Car bomb attacks in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi on Monday March 17 left at least nine people dead and another 18 wounded.<br /><br />According to Reuters, the first car bomb exploded at the front gate of a military academy as soldiers were leaving following a graduation ceremony. One or two more bombs exploded around the same time. The attack killed eight people and injured at least 18 others. <br /><br />Another car bomb later exploded in front of the state oil firm Brega Petroleum Marketing Co, a company that sells fuel products inside Libya, Reuters reported. <br /><br />No group claimed responsibility for the bombings.<br /><br />According to a statement, the government called the academy attack a terrorist act and declared three days of mourning.<br /><br />Benghazi is the largest city in eastern Libya, where some groups want more autonomy and a greater share of the region's oil wealth, the BBC reported.
