Originally published on February 25, 2014<br /><br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />A beach on the shores of eastern Libya was the site of a massacre on Monday night.<br /><br />Seven Egyptian Christians were executed on a beach in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on the evening on February 24.<br /><br />Reuters reports that unidentified gunmen entered a building known to house Egyptian workers.<br /><br />The gunmen reportedly went door to door demanding to know the religion of each apartment's occupant.<br /><br />After rounding up seven Egyptian Christians, the gunmen led them away to a nearby beach, where the seven were shot, execution style, with bullets to the back of the head.<br /><br />All seven were killed and local police confirmed the victims were Egyptian Christians.<br />Just over a month ago, a British man and a woman from New Zealand were also shot execution-style on another beach around 100 kilometers to the west of the capital Tripoli.<br /><br />No claims of responsibility have been made, but suspicion has fallen on the hard-line Islamist group Ansar al-Shari, the group blamed by the U.S. for the deadly 2011 attack on its Benghazi embassy.<br /><br />Libya has found containing various militias and terror groups difficult since the fall of long time dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi.<br /><br />The nation is awash in weapons and the central government holds little power over the militia groups that rule most of the country. <br /><br />Authorities in Tripoli have found it exceptionally difficult to establish control over the eastern city of Benghazi, where the uprising to overthrow Gaddafi first began in 2011.<br /><br />Gaddafi ruled Libya for over 40 years, but was ousted and assassinated by militia fighter after air support from NATO helped tip the balance of power towards the Libyan rebels. <br /><br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
