Alfred Wright, a 28-year-old African-American physical therapist, husband and father of three, was found dead last fall in Sabine County, Texas.

Wright grew up in Jasper, the town where the infamous racially charged murder of James Byrd took place 15 years ago.

Wright's family believes his marriage to a white woman could have been a motive for his death.

Wright was on his way to see a patient when his pickup truck broke down.

He parked outside a store and he called his wife, Lauren, for help. She called his parents to assist her husband. When they arrived at the store, Wright was missing.

Wright's wife called him back on the phone.

"And that's when I heard the heavy breathing, the respiratory distress of some kind," Lauren told KHOU 11 News. "It was very heavy breathing and I just could sense that something wasn't right."

The Sabine County Sheriff's Office conducted a search but called it off after four days, saying they'd exhausted their resources.

Wright's body was found 18 days later by his father and volunteers. He was only wearing his boxer shorts, one sock with his cell phone tucked inside and his black sneakers.

Wright's throat had been slit, and he was missing an ear and two front teeth.

The county autopsy report found that Wright's death was "accidental" and caused by a drug overdose.

Suspicious, Wright's family had their own autopsy conducted. The forensic pathologist hired by the family said her preliminary review found evidence of "homicidal violence."

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced that it will open an investigation into the case.

Wright is survived by a wife and three sons. Wright was the breadwinner for his wife and three sons, so the family is in need of donations.

If you want to help, go to the Alfred Wright Foundation at GoFundMe.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
