Originally published on November 11, 2013.<br /><br />A plane crashed in Red Lake, Canada on Sunday, killing five people and causing a power outage that affected hundreds of people in the area. <br /><br />Seven people were onboard the Bearskin Airline plane flying from Sioux Lookout, Ontario. The aircraft crash-landed outside Red Lake Airport at 7:34 p.m, taking down six utility poles on its descent. <br /><br />"When the plane hit the ground, it burst into flames," Sergeant Rob McDonough of the Ontario Provincial Police's communications centre said in a Kenora Online report. "The plane became totally engulfed in flames, and the bush fire around the plane caught fire, as well."<br /><br />Two passengers survived. A 29-year-old male passenger seated at the rear of the plane climbed out of the burning wreck. After calling the police, he dragged out a 55-year-old passenger, also seated at the back of the plane. Both were hospitalised for non-life threatening injuries. <br /><br />Police from the OPP Red Lake detachment, ambulances and firefighters attended to the scene. The five casualties, including the two pilots, were found only after the fire was extinguished.<br /><br />The scene of the crash will be held secure until a dispatch of investigators from the Transportation Safety Board arrives on Monday, November 11. <br /><br />Hydro One, the electric power provider for the area, estimates that approximately 900 of its customers around Red Lake lost power due to the crash. <br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
