After an ugly divorce, Colorado Springs resident Earl Ray Jones found himself saddled with a $3,000 a month settlement, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

To get back at his wife, the 52-year-old pillaged the couple's entire retirement nest egg, converted the $500,000 sum into gold, and just to make sure his wife never saw a dime, he claims he made several trips to a nearby landfill to toss it out.

"Damn right I did," the former defense contractor told John-Paul Lyle, the attorney of his former wife of 25 years, at a deposition in July.

Bank records supplied by Jones show the money was in fact converted to gold, according to Lyle. Whether or not he actually threw it away is another matter.

Jones took no steps to document the disposal, and claimed there were no witnesses.

His initial plan, however, was to cash out and hand over the money out to random strangers.

"If that would have been an option, I would have been walking around giving people $100 bills," Jones said, according to a transcript of the deposition cited by the Gazette.

There's biting off the nose to spite the face, and then, according to April Jones' lawyer, there's this.

"We say that when people are divorcing, they enter a state of temporary insanity," Lyle told the paper. "But on a scale of 1 to 10, this is my 10."

--------------------------------------------------------

TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
